- Rebuilding the Chimney
- I had to rebuild this chimney from the
inside out. First I had to replace a large portion of the terracotta liner then
the brick pointing started to fall out so I had to do repointing. It turned
out that it was so bad that the bricks were actually starting to fall out. It
finally occurred to me that it might be a good idea to take some photos when I
was about half way done putting the brick back on the outside layer.

- Stone Pointing
- At first I was just figuring out how to do stone pointing. It is very very
time consuming to make it so the stands out with nice sharp lines. You will
see that I did one portion of one wall the old fashioned way like that. The
rest I did freehand and left them like that. It was still very time consuming
but only about half the time of doing it the old fashioned way. The stone is
about 30 inches high all the way around my house. I still have three walls or
about 60 linier feet to go.

- Stucco Repair
- I only have photos of a couple of small patches. I have gotten a lot
better at redoing or actually renewing the stucco. I renewed the stucco on the
entire front of my house about 7 years ago and it still looks great. When I
say renew what I am talking about is brushing a thin or watery mixture of
cement into the existing stucco. I imagine it is something like the old
whitewash. It is labor intensive and can be very messy but the materials are
inexpensive. Next summer I plan to renew the stucco on at least one whole side
of my house. If I can remember, I will take more photos.
