New ConstructionA Custom Built New Home is something everyone would love but almost everyone is afraid to try because of all the horror stories. All you have to do to avoid living a horror story is learn a little about each of the steps involved in building a New Home. Make a list of everything that will need to be done. Start at the finding the land or a building site and think about what makes a good place to build a New Home. When you get to the point where you start researching the finishing touches such as floor coverings, you should have enough knowledge to start the process for real and not get scammed by an unscrupulous contractor. Don't try to save money by hiring unlicensed uninsured contractors. Get certificates of insurance from every contractor. Make a written contract that includes the scope of work, materials to be used, start and completion dates, insurance requirements, if they can use subcontractors (Remember you are the contractor), and how payments will be made.
